I really like Gore Bike Wear cycling clothes. I find they are really thought out well and function even better. I've been using a number of GBW articles for a few years now, but they've been mostly those with what Gore calls comfort fit. I've lost some weight because I've cycling and I wanted something that was more snug to the body. Enter the Gore Xenon 2.0 SO Jacket. Xenon is their high end line of road cycling clothes, and they have what Gore calls the slim fit: snug, but not next to skin tight (which they call tight fit).
The Jacket:
The jacket has Windstopper all around the jacket, front, back, arms, ribs, everywhere. Inside, a low pile fleece is strategically placed in places to trap warm air where needed and is missing from places where Gore thinks you will build up too much heat. So on my white/red jacket, where you see the red, that is where there is no fleece: center of the back, ribs, and the bottom of the arms. The black stripes you see on the shoulders is waterproof tape. Windstopper is windproof, but pretty water resistant as well. Putting tape on the shoulder seams makes the jacket a bit more water resistant (but I'd be hesitant to say it's waterproof), and makes the jacket look pretty sharp! The collar is high in the back and 'high' in the front. If you tilt your chin down into your chest, the collar may jab you under your chin. Head straight up it doesn't, and in the cycling position, it's just plain fantastic (more below on performance).
One little detail. If you zoom in on the picture of the front of the jacket, there is a little piece of leatherette covering the collar near the zipper. I believe this is a bite down area to help you pull the zipper down. The collar is quite stiff and I don't think this is necessary on this jacket, but still a thoughtful piece to add. (There is the same piece on the Gore Men's Xenon 2.0 AS Jacket, and on that jacket it is warranted.)
Fit:
I'm 5'7", 150lbs, 35" chest. Gore's sizing charts (don't go by Amazon's, which are rarely manufacturer specific) put me at the lowest end of a medium. It fit ok across the shoulders and arms, but was a bit flappy around the ribs. The Windstopper material has minimal stretch to it, so it doesn't cling tightly to the smaller body. I tried on a small where I'm just a little over the top range. While tight, I still was able to fit a base layer and mid layer underneath it and feel comfortable in the cycling position (standing up straight was a bit too tight). But the ribs were now hugging my torso. So I went with the small. Try different sizes to see which fits best, but always evaluate it from the cycling position (arms extended, slightly bent forward at the hips). These jackets will feel a bit tight across the arms and chest if just standing up straight.
Performance:
I've been on one ride with the jacket thus far. Started out at 30F and topped out at 40F when I finished a few hours later. Wore a base layer and mid layer with the jacket. Starting out, I was cool, a tad cold where there was no thermal fleece. 10-15 minutes into the ride however, I was glad there was no fleece as I definitely began to warm up. A few minutes later, I was already beginning to open up the vents: first the arm vents which stayed open most of the time, and then the chest vents, opened and closed when needed.
The first half of the ride, I was quite snug. Not warm, but definitely not cold, just right. Great start. Took a short break and went inside a store for some water. Opened the jacket and I was perspiring quite a bit. Tried to air out before I went back on the bike. I guess I was still quite wet from perspiration so when I started the 2nd leg of the ride, I was quite cold. But eventually I was able to warm back up after 15 minutes on the bike again. Moral of the story? This jacket will get you quite warm, you will perspire quite a bit, so vent generously. I wish the material breathed a little bit more to help keep the sweat buildup down.
A word about the collar. The collar is just plain fantastic!! In the cycling position, the back of the collar sticks nicely to the back of the neck preventing cold air going down your back. The front of the collar also tips up torwards the chin, so when you are in the cycling position, absolutely no air goes down the front either. You will not need a neck gaiter when you wear this jacket. I also have the Castelli Espresso Due and I wish its collar was similarly designed. I think i will need to use a neck gaiter with that jacket, definitely not required with the Xenon!
In summary, a great jacket that performs well and looks fantastic. While the material itself could breath a bit more, the vents are nice options to have to help compensate for that. It's a fairly light jacket, but don't let that fool you. It's a warm jacket that will help you maintain and regulate your heat on the bike quite well!

By Stephen J. Kemp
I have done three rides with this jacket, with only a long sleeve base layer below it. It was comfortable in the 30s and 40s, too warm for the 50s, I have not tried it colder yet. I ride hard so and it did a good job of getting the sweat out. I like that you can open the side vents while you are riding as you heat up.
The jacket has good 360 degree reflectors on it. The collar is well constructed to seal off on your neck. I am 195 lb and 6 ft tall and got a large At first I thought it was too small standing up, but it felt better in a riding position. It is definitely a tight fit. If you don't want that, don't get this jacket.
