The general rule of thumb is the simpler the better. Many detergents with additives leave "surfactants" behind on a fabric's fibers that inhibit the technical performance. Typically the best detergents to use will have "Clear" or "Free" in their names. Don't pour the detergent directly onto the clothing, put it in the washer first, when you start the water. If something is not functionally working, but is not dirty, try rinsing it twice in warm to hot water. This will help get rid of the harmful surfactants. Read the care content label:On the inside of your garment, or on the hangcard, there are instructions for the care of that individual piece. On garments this will be on a side seam or back seam label. Follow those directions. On finer fabrics, use a "Gentle" cycle. Close all zippers, attach "hook and loop" closures on gloves You can use the dryer, carefully: If you use a dryer be sure to use a lower / warm heat setting (Do NOT use a commercial dryer or a "Hot" setting). This will often restore the fabric and help the water and wind repellent qualities. If in doubt, hang the clothing to dry.

very impressed with pants. function in 35 degree weather well . did wear a baselayer under pants . i found the hook and loop adjustment needding improvment

I bought these pants and a pair for my father and I'm glad that I did. The material is very high quality and cleans up perfectly after a muddy ride. The snaps at the waist and the zippers at the ankles work perfectly. I also use them as shorts with the Pro Barrier Leg Warmers and regular riding shorts underneath. I think a rider could wear a nice base layer underneath to stay dry on cool days. I have used mine full length with leg warmers and regular shorts on 30 degree night rides and was on the cusp of being cold. If i had had some regular thermal tights on it would have been perfect. Buy these pants because they are awesome and I don't think PI is making the ones like this anymore....you'll be glad you did!

I love anything from PI and especially this pair of pants. They are wind and waterproof. I have used these pants to stay warm on cold days by putting a pair long johns underneath, and I've used them simply to block wind on 40-50 degree days and to ride in the rain and everything in between. My only gripe is the little piece of fabric that stretches across the lower part of leg when it's unzipped. I caught this fabric numerous times in the zipper until it eventually tore. The good news is the zipper is at the bottom of the pant leg is totally sealed so it won't allow water in even with that piece of fabric missing. They shouldn't have even put it there to begin with. This will not be a problem for anyone, just thought I'd mention it. Very high quality, waterproof pair of pants and I would get another pair in a heartbeat when these wear out 20 years from now. I also love that they are shorts too.
